I want to print out a line drawing at a very large size. The drawing in question is simple black-and-white (it's a copy of the comic book panel of Maggie and Hopey I had in West Ham if you remember that), so spot colour would be fine. Ideally about 2m x 2m.

I can't find anyone who will print something that big on paper. Print shops seem to max out at around A0, which is rather a lot too small.

There are companies that print advertising onto plastic banners - these guys were the cheapest I could find at £81 + VAT + delivery for 1.8m square. That seems expensive though, and it's much "more" (process colour on a relatively robust substrate) than I need. Also I don't know if they're printed in a way that looks good close up.

Anyone got any ideas? Rasterbator and similar chop-it-up-into-A4-pieces suggestions will not be considered</jwz>.

I'm not sure, but for reference, useful search terms might be the outsize paper sizes 4A0 (1682x2378mm) and 2A0 (1189x1682).

I'm fascinated to know what you want to do with this.

Fair enough. Despite your aversion to the 'print it smaller and piece it together' idea, you may want to look at places that print designs onto wallpaper. You still have to piece it together yourself but it will come cut to the right size and properly aligned, and be a lot more manageable to put up without creasing or tearing than a single huge sheet.

I could probably do you 2-3 'strips' of A1 width. It's still got an element of stick it together, but it'd most likely be free. (Summer = empty print shop).

obviously i'd have to get a calculator to work out how many strips = 2m in width

Is that the short side of A1 (594mm) or the long side (841mm)? I make that the difference between 3 and 4 strips.

If you would consider doing that it would be really cool; trimming and attaching four strips well enough to look good is something I might actually do, while doing the same for 35 sheets of A4 sounds a lot less plausible...

there are some places on the ebay that print a picture of your choice onto canvas, would that be of any use?

Or I could ask my local printer that we use at work if you want.

If your printers can print at that size I'd love to hear about it but I haven't found any yet that do so I'm not holding out a great deal of hope...
