Hauppauge NOVA-T PCI freeview card (Windows disks lost, works great with Linux / MythTV)Generic 17 inch TFT monitor (1280x1024, VGA only) Please please please only comment if you are actually prepared to actually come here and actually take the item. I don't want to be "reserving" things for people for six months, I am trying to get rid of them. That is the point.

Will gladly take the Freeview and TFT. When do you want rid of them by? I can probably pop by next week some time? If someone offers to get them sooner then fair do's.
"Next week", is fine. "At some point when I get round to it" is not ;)
Then next week it is! I lack your current address. If you let me know a good time, I can pop round on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. e-mail can be sent to ash*bugger*@*off*irock109*spam*.com.
Speakers sound interesting. My amplifier-type-thing uses 50W speakers presently. Assuming they're carryable by tube, when do they need to be picked up by?
The speakers would only be carryable by tube if you had one reasonably strong person per speaker, I suspect. For reference, they weigh 14kg each and are 85cm tall. Assuming that means they're still interesting, any time in the next couple of weeks would be fine.
werenerd was definitely the better bet on these. Recruiting friends and carrying speakers to the other side of London by tube would not have been practical.

You've been to my flat, do you think I need these? I don't have any speakers yet, still on my to do list. We could pick them up in Christina's Volvo, if they'd fit.
I certainly think no home is complete without a proper sound system ;)
The speakers should definitely fit in Christina's car, but you should be aware that these are proper stereo speakers and hence require a stereo or surround amplifier. The centre speaker requires a surround amp.
Cool, I'll take them. Thanks.
Any suggestions on what I ought to buy to make them work? I really have no clue about these things.
There are two different things you could do: just take the stereo speakers and make a stereo system, or take the stereo and centre speakers and use them as the start of a surround system. For a full surround system you would also need a pair of rear speakers and optionally a subwoofer. Conventionally people whose primary interest is music buy stereo systems (as almost all music is only in stereo) while people whose primary interest is film buy surround systems (as most DVDs have surround). So maybe you should aim for a surround system? On the other hand it's difficult to get a surround system without filling your living room with speakers - I've done this but you may not want to. Richer Sounds' cheapest stereo amp is currently £69, while their cheapest AV (surround) amp is £169. You would also need to buy speaker cable, the cheapest stuff it's sensible to buy costs 69p / metre. Richer Sounds is of course not the be-all and end-all of hifi shops but they're cheap and fairly accessible.
cool. Many thanks. Can we come and get them on Sunday afternoon?
Should be practical I think. Cool! | |
