Long shot I know, but I don't suppose anyone has an old MP3 player they could lend me for a month or so until I can afford a new one.

And yes, I did leave my old one somewhere and forget about it - why do you ask?

I have a slightly cranky 40GB iPod... its currently on bedroom duty, but i'm sure it could be dragged out of retirement...
However it *is* an iPod... so that might make you feel dirty...

If I wouldn't be depriving you, that would be really great. I promise I won't even put RockBox on it...

you can put on it what you want. it will occasionally whir its HDD in an annoying manner. This will be fixed by a couple of short taps against a work surface (preferably when its in its case).

Now how to get it to you?

Well, that's the question innit. If [info]wechsler can lend me his nano then it's probably easier not to...

It's a metaphor. As you well know.

Actually I've not heard that one before.

Honest!

You know that if I had I'd be using it constantly.

What does it mean?

It's usually used to refer to drug addiction... I've got no idea where it comes from - rhyming slang for smack or crack possibly?

This idiom first appeared in the texts of Ancient Sumeria where substance abusers and others social outcasts were marked with a large scarlet monkey.

Apparantly.

Though some would also say that it refers the the way the baby monkeys cling to their mothers backs and thus represent a burden.

I prefer the Sumarian one though.
